Renfrew Power Generation plans to build a new generating station, Clear Point, with a higher capacity to sustain output while refurbishing the two existing facilities.
Project Objectives
- To maximize the waterpower potential of the Bonnechere river at Renfrew.
- To generate an additional 3.6 MW of capacity at the new generating station –Clear Point.
- To increase capacity at the existing stations from 2 MW to 2.5 MW
- To achieve a total generation capacity of 6.1 MW at three plants.
Once completed, the Clear Point GS will become the main generating plant in the downtown core.
The upgraded plants will operate during low-flow conditions and intermittently at at higher capacities depending on the frequency of higher river flows.
All facilities will operate as run-of-river systems, meaning that no water is stored in the system.
